PARTNERS AND DONORS
ROTARY CLUB OF SEATTLE
In 2016 we received an Innovative Grant ($24,500 USD) from the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation in partnership with the Rotary Club of Seattle (‘Seattle 4’) in the USA and the Muyenga Rotary Club in Kampala, Uganda. The grant was disbursed between 2019 - 2021 and helped us expand our livelihoods trainings and to turn Bondeko Centre into a community hub for both refugees and Ugandans.
LEMON TREE TRUST
In 2017, with the support of a 3,000 USD grant from the Lemon Tree Trust, the Bondeko Centre created its own small-scale urban garden. The project is still led by experienced farmers in the refugee community, and trains single mothers in our community. The garden includes maize, beans, tomatoes, millet, and greens, which are increasing the food sovereignty of our community, as well as enabling women to sell the surplus at markets. family resources through their mothers’ livelihoods).
COHERE CHARITY
In 2016 Xavier Project, an international organisation supporting refugees’ education, donated computers and an internet router, and trained Bondeko members to become trainers in IT and computer skills. The centre now operates as a ‘Tamuka Hub’, offering weekly computer skills classes by Bondeko trainers and internet access for both youth and adults.
OMPRAKASH
The Bondeko Centre partners with Omprakash, an American non-profit organisation helping match volunteers with grassroots organisations in the Global South, in order to identify reliable and skilled volunteers. As a partner of Omprakash, Bondeko Centre receives 501(c)(3) non-profit status in the USA, and is able to fundraise on their website. For more information on volunteering, see our ‘Get Involved’ page.
FINNISH REFUGEE COUNCIL
In 2014-2015 the Bondeko Centre took part in a two-year organisational capacity building training by the Finnish Refugee Council (FRC). The Bondeko Committee was trained in financial management, organizational structure, and organizational planning. At the end of the training, FRC provided a grant to build the oven for the Bondeko bakery.
